Moon Trek NEO II - AGENGA - Author's Notes

Share with someone you love or hate, depending on your opinion!

Good evening all (it is evening here in chilly Las Vegas as I write this!). I would like to thank you for taking the time to read my little story! I hope that on some level you enjoyed it!

I would like to take a moment to thank my super awesome pre-reader, Christian "Schobronics" Schober. Without him, the story would have been filled with spelling errors, grammar errors, and plot holes – just like all the rest of them!

I wanted to quickly chat about the technology level – or lack thereof – of the NSO teams when going up against the CSS.

A lot of people (2, but considering only 6 or 7 people have ever emailed me about MT, that’s a lot) have said that I jumped the shark by making the technology that the NSO teams used too ‘old school.’

I tried to counter by saying that if they HAD used the super technology of the 24th century, the mission would have been too damn easy and the story would have been very short and uninteresting.

They didn’t buy it though. So if you agree that I really dropped the ball on this one, you are not alone. I, however, stand by my guns with bullets and night vision goggle world.

I got my basis from Battlestar Galactica. Not the old one, but the new one that is currently airing here in the United States on the SciFi channel. In that show, they have FTL travel. They have very strong computers and neat gizmos and stuff, but it also seems a little more realistic to me, since they don’t have phasers and tricorders.

I don’t know. It may just be the militaristic American in me, but I long for the days when guns hurt people and things actually blew up. So that is one of the reasons why I wrote the story with the technology the way I did.

Also, I was trying to make a point about the Federation.

This is the kind of story that true, die-hard Star Trek fans might not like. If it wasn’t obvious, I painted the Federation in a dark light. Corruption, greed, everything that exists now, I sent it to the 24th century.

Why did I do this? I have always felt that while the times and the social situations might change, humans won’t. On some level, no matter how advanced we get, the human desire to conquer and control everything will ALWAYS be there, along with our arrogance that WE are the ones who are always right.

And yes, I am talking about all humans, because no matter what nation you are from, on some level you think you’re right. Some nations are just a little more vocal about it than others.

Another question I had was about the role of Starfleet Marines on the ship.

Basically, the Marines’ job is to land on planets and conduct offensive military operations (like in our time, the Marines land on beaches and kick everyone’s ass).

But when they are not on a planet kicking ass, they share the responsibility of security on the ship with the Starfleet Navy security officers (i.e. the guys in gold shirts who always get killed).

So you will sometimes find a couple of Marines and a couple of security officers on patrol together in the hallways, assisting Ryouga to find Mina’s room!

Speaking of Mina and Ryouga, what’s with their relationship anyway? Well, I can tell you this. Ryouga and Mina’s relationship is so simple, it’s complex.

They are technically dating, and I can safely say Ryouga is having no problems getting to third base. But I really don’t know if it’s going to go much farther than that.

I hope no one is too upset with me over the Shampoo/Jansen storyline. I can’t imagine who would be, though. I thoroughly enjoyed writing it, I know that much! I see them being together for a long, long time.

What’s next? I can tell you exactly what’s next.

But I won’t.

I’ll give you a preview though.

Moon Trek Neo – Episode Three: Prime Directive is already being worked on. I don’t know when I will release it though. Probably not till after the New Year – most likely sometime in February.

If you don’t want to know, stop reading.

The basic premise is that due to an ‘engine malfunction’, the Sisko is hurled into the middle of nowhere. The ship crashes onto a populated, pre-warp planet.

The crew obviously has no choice but to make contact with the inhabitants (they all could easily see an enormous warship flying onto the planet) and find out that there is a massive civil war going on, where one ethnic side is practicing genocide to wipe out the other.

Of course, the crew then has to decide whether or not to allow this genocide to continue and obey the prime directive, or intervene.

And Starfleet rescuers won’t be arriving for almost three months!

Could be fun.

Anyway, any comments, feel free to send them to funkdafied@douglasavenue.com, or use the form at the Moon Trek website; http://moontrek.douglasavenue.com. There are also anime forums at http://www.douglasavenue.com/mtforums/ if you want to be the first to post!

Take care and I look forward to hearing from you!

A special note from 2021 ewink – This post is taken directly from the MTN2 author’s note, so while it was accurate when it was written, it is not now. There are no anime forms anymore, if you want to contact me, you should use the contact link at the top of this site, and I don't live in Las Vegas anymore. Thanks!
